At the start of 2018, the company attempted to launch an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) which would enable it to enable payments (and earn the cash that comes from doing so). The initial signals were promising, especially given Telegram’s user base is already fairly crypto-savvy. It raised an initial tranche of cash – worth more than a billion dollars – to help develop the coin before opening sales to the public. Unfortunately, third-party sales of coins bought in those initial fundraising rounds raised the ire of the SEC, which brought the hammer down on the whole operation. In 2020, officials ordered Telegram to pay a fine of $18.5 million and hand back much of the cash that it had raised. The S&P 500 fell 1.3% to 4,204.36, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.7% to 32,943.33. The Dow posted a fifth straight weekly loss — its longest losing streak since 2019. The Nasdaq Composite tumbled 2.2% to 12,843.81. Though all three indexes opened in the green, stocks took a turn after a new report showed U.S. consumer sentiment deteriorated more than expected in early March as consumers' inflation expectations soared to the highest since 1981. Soloviev also promoted the channel in a post he shared on his own Telegram, which has 580,000 followers. The post recommended his viewers subscribe to "War on Fakes" in a time of fake news. This ability to mix the public and the private, as well as the ability to use bots to engage with users has proved to be problematic. In early 2021, a database selling phone numbers pulled from Facebook was selling numbers for $20 per lookup. Similarly, security researchers found a network of deepfake bots on the platform that were generating images of people submitted by users to create non-consensual imagery, some of which involved children. "Like the bombing of the maternity ward in Mariupol," he said, "Even before it hits the news, you see the videos on the Telegram channels."

大西北抗疫關注組武漢肺炎肆虐，政府至今未從源頭根治，留有深圳灣口岸及港珠澳大橋，亦未有足夠社區防疫措施，為整個香港尤其大西北公共衛生造成隱患，增加社區爆發風險。政府罔顧大西北及全港市民安危，本關注組要求政府回應以下訴求：

1. 立刻全面封關，從源頭阻隔病菌襲港
2. 整治關口交通，停止往來大陸運輸
3. 重設隔離診所，與民居保持距離
4. 儘快採購口罩，為基層居民提供保障
5. 全力支援醫護，回應工會罷工訴求

政府無能，市民自救。政府須盡公營機構責任為市民負責！五大訴求，缺一不可！
